The Good White reading at the Market Theatre

My first production at The Market Theatre after seven years!

As I walked up the stairs to the room where the reading of The Good White would take place, I passed the poster of When Swallows Cry and noticed from the dates that it's been seven years since I had a play at the Market Theatre.  Directed by Lesedi Job, I have good memories of that piece commissioned by Ibsen in China, and that won Naledi awards for Best Script, Best Director and Best New Theatre Production.

I'm excited about The Good White, a drama set against the backdrop of the Fees/Rhodes Must Fall campaigns and which explores a range of contemporary themes.  The reading was attended by a few invited guests, and it was most encouraging to have their responses - and those of the four readers - afterwards.  The Market Theatre will partner The Suidooster Festival in producing the piece which will have a short run in Cape Town at the Festival, before a four-week run at the Market Theatre from mid-May.
