STAND playwriting competition ends with playreadings

STAND Foundation, with the National Afrikaans Theatre Institute and the Vrystaat Festival hosted the Pen to Paper playwriting competition.

Five works were selected from the entries received and each had an opportunity be done as a staged reading during 2022.  The competition climaxed at the Baxter Theatre on 21 January with four of the plays being staged as readings.  The judges selected the work by Lauren Snyders as the winning work.  She received R20 000 sponsored by a STAND patron, Charles Carter, to continue to develop the work that will be staged at Woordfees in October 2023.  (Coincidentally, Lauren directed an all-male production of my play Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Metaphors at Rondebosch Boys High School).
