Staged reading of The Good White

Election Day things

What does one do on Election Day once one has voted?  Why, one hosts and attends a staged reading of a play!  It is a public holiday after all.

Thirty people took up my invitation to attend the first public reading of The Good White at 14:00 on Wednesday, May 29 in ARTSCAPE's iSibiya Room.  The cast under the direction of Lee-Ann van Rooi only had a few hours to rehearse - as is typical with such readings - but they did a good enough job to inspire and enthuse the audience who were generous in their praise.  It has been a most useful exercise, showing me how to rework the text.  Despite the Vrystaat Kunstefees setback, we are all keen to have this work brought to the stage!
