South African Cultural Policy Network (SACPN)
Two regional committees (Cape Town and Gauteng) of volunteers were set up to initiate the SA Cultural Policy Network.
There's an absence of representative arts organisations engaged in research and advocacy in South Africa currently, and yet there is much happening that affects the sector. We set up a regional committee of the proposed SA Cultural Policy Network in Cape Town on 7 August and another in Gauteng (with participants from Pretoria and Johannesburg) a week later on 13 August. The SA network will work with the African Cultural Policy Network of which I serve as President. The SACPN has already prepare and issued an informative newsletter to a database of more than 800 creatives and will host public forums on the future of the National Arts Festival in the week of 26 August.
