Robert Bosch Fellows' Tour
Visit to East Germany for a short study tour
Each year, the Robert Bosch Foundation invites its fellows for a short study tour on a particular subject in Germany. This year, the theme was how East Germans feel about the contemporary Germany 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The general feeling - from those whom we met - was that while their lives had changed substantially, they are very concerned about ongoing inequalities between West and East Germany, and how East Germans continue to get the short straw in remuneration, education and other parts of social life.
The tour took place from 28-30 October, after which I stayed on in Berlin where I had spent 8 months on a Bosch Fellowship in 2016/2017.
