Return of the Ancestors runs at the Wave Theatre

The old Space Theatre hosts a genuflection to WOZA ALBERT

I saw Woza Albert at the iconic Space Theatre some decades ago.  This South African classic tells the story of Jesus returning to South Africa during the apartheid era.  It was fitting therefore, to host the first run of the updated (from 2014 to 2024) script of Return of the Ancestors at the Wave Theatre in 44 Long Street, once the home of the Space Theatre.  Return of the Ancestors is a satirical, multi-sketch piece about Steve Biko and Neil Aggett returning to South Africa, thirty years into our democracy, to determine whether the sacrifices of the ancestors have been worth it.  Performed by the talented duo of Rondo Mpiti-Spies and Sikhuthali Oliver Bongo under the direction of Walter Strydom - all of Bloemfontein  - the play was well-received by local audiences who praised the energy and expertise of the cast.   The play ran from 6-13 October 2024.
