Return of the Ancestors at the Solidarity Hub

First My Fellow South Africans, and then Return of the Ancestors

The Solidarity Hub is a gathering of activists from Southern African NGOs active in climate change, gender based violence and other social justice work.  Last October, we performed My Fellow South Africans at the two-day Hub in Johannesburg and on the strength of that, we were invited back this year.  Having just finished a week-long run at the Wave Theatre in Cape Town, Rondo Mpiti and Oliver Bonga flew to Johannesburg on the Monday afternoon and performed sketches from Return of the Ancestors the next day at the start of the Solidarity Hub.  I received a heart-warming message from the organiser later that day saying: "It couldn't have gone better...I'm not exaggerating in saying the play has ben quite key in shaping our process".  This has again affirmed the value of theatre in opening up topics for conversation and in encouraging perspectives and conversations that would not be platformed otherwise.
