NorthRhine-Westphalia Workshop on cultural collaborations with Africa
I was invited to share some thoughts on international cultural collaboration with practitioners in Dusseldorf in early December.
The NorthRhine-Westphalia federal state has embarked on cultural collaborations with various African countries and has established links in other sectors with Mpumulanga in South Africa. The cultural sector had a workshop to consider relations between the state and African cultural actors, and what this would entail and how they should be pursued in the context of inequality. My friend Kirstin Hess who works at the main theatre complex in Dusseldorf, invited me to participate in this workshop and to share some thoughts. It was a good experience - other than the nearly 8 hours of train travel it took both ways!
