Launch of the Artist in Residence programme at the University of the Free State
Celebration to mark the inaugural writer in residence
From 10 February to 10 May, I had the honour of being the inaugural Artist-in-Residence as part of the University of Free State's proposed International Institute for the Arts. I produced a new script, The Good White, during the residency and also updated Return of the Ancestors to mark 30 years of democracy. The official launch of the Artist-in-Residence programme took place on Thursday 27 June in the Scaena Theatre on the UFS campus. The Vice-Chancellor, Francis Petersen, did the official welcome, after which I engaged in conversation with the head of the drama department, Prof Anthea van Jaarsveld. Then, there were staged readings of excerpts from the two plays that I had worked on, both of which were really well received.
