Forty-first play submitted
Life After Coal play first draft done
I was commissioned by an NGO, Life After Coal, to work with activists in Mpumalanga where many coal mines are located, to work on a play that would educate local communities about 'life after coal' given that many mines were facing closure in the light of the shift to renewable energy. Since coal was a major source of livelihood - directly and indirectly for many in the province - there is much fear about the decommissioning of coal-powered stations. The purpose of the play is to educate but also to trigger discussion and debate about what a society in a post-coal dispensation could look like. I submitted the first draft of the script to the organisers on Friday 11 July. First performances are scheduled provisionally for August.
