Conversation with Niren Tolsi

Gayton McKenzie's censorship of an artist discussed

As my April guest in my monthly conversations with people connected to the arts, I chatted with Niren Tolsi, freelance journalist, who covered the story for the Daily Maverick about Gabrielle Goliath's participation in the Venice Biennial being cancelled by Gayton McKenzie because - as a Christian Zionist - he did not like the work that featured the genocide in Gaza.  He has an obligation to uphold the constitution and its commitment to freedom of expression, but yet again, McKenzie breached his oath, and remains in his post.  It was an information conversation with Niren who spoke broadly about the decline in arts journalism in the country and the impact this is having on the arts sector.
