Artistic Freedom in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities

I was invited to participate in an online workshop on human rights - and artistic freedom in particular - in Africa from 16-19 November.  Hosted by Artists at Risk, Pen America and the Southern African Human Rights Defenders Network, it brought together arts practitioners, activists, legal people and others from around the continent.   It was a good opportunity to connect with colleagues from other African countries again; it's been a while since I enjoyed such contact on a regular basis through Arterial Network and the African Arts Institute.
