Abraham's Promises at The Wave

Scripted dialogue provokes debate

After its initial outing in Spin Street a few days before, we presented Abraham's Promises to a paying audience on Sunday afternoon 17 November.  The script had already been amended and shortened since its first reading and it played much better, thereby again confirming for me as a writer, the value of developing scripts in consultation with audiences as it were, so that by the time they get to premiere, they have undergone some rigorous interrogation.  The reading and the responses did leave me wondering about which of four options to pursue with the script 1. to develop it into a full drama (expensive and limited to a theatre audience) 2. keep it as a scripted dialogue that is done as a reading with professional actors (less expensive, but always using the script) 3. making the script available for anyone to be able to put together a panel of readers whether at schools, a faith institution, an NGO or other or 4. to do the script as a one-person piece.  Something to ponder over the December holidays....
